Off Topic. Did America Just become a Socialist Country?

socialism ˈsō sh əˌlizəm noun
a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

This straight from the dictionary on my computer. Isn't that what our government is going to be doing this week? Regulating the means of production, distribution, and exchange if not just taking it over...

My take: BSG fans know the line: "All of this has happened before, and it will all happen again." They talk about the cyclical nature of the economy, but I think what we are seeing is the much larger cycle. Every 30 years or so the economy goes ka-boom. Every 60 or seventy years it causes a radical course change.

Now I don't think this is the fall of the American Empire or anything, but it seems after the crash of 1987, savings and loan collapse, the tech bubble and now the housing bubble - we can't go back to a pure laisez faire economy.

The next time someone says the sky is the limit, tell them about Icarus.
