My take: BSG fans know the line: "All of this has happened before, and it will all happen again." They talk about the cyclical nature of the economy, but I think what we are seeing is the much larger cycle. Every 30 years or so the economy goes ka-boom. Every 60 or seventy years it causes a radical course change.
Now I don't think this is the fall of the American Empire or anything, but it seems after the crash of 1987, savings and loan collapse, the tech bubble and now the housing bubble - we can't go back to a pure laisez faire economy.
